KALIMPONG




KALIMPONG: Kalimpong is a Hill station nestled in the Shiwalik Hills in the Indian state of West Bengal.Kalimpong subdivision,a part of the district of Darjeeling.The precise etymology of the name Kalimpong remains unclear.The most widely accepted origin of the name Kalimpong is "Assembly of the King's Ministers"inTibetan derived from kalon.




 
       Deolo Hill :  Situated at a height of 5500ft, Deolo is the highest point of Kalimpong town.The view from the Hill is a fantastic one.One can see the entire kalimpong Town, the magnificient Mt.Kanchenjunga,the surrounding villages and Relli valley on one side with the Teesta River.It is one of the most popular destinations of Kalimpong.      
                                                       




DEOLO  VIEW  POINT: Deolo View Point is situated at the top of Deolo Hill at 1914 metres, overlooking the town of Kalimpong.The top of which is the highest point in Kalimpong.There are excellent views of snow peaks, Kalimpong town and the Teesta Valley.Two big reservoirs here are the source of water supply to the town of Kalimpong .




DURPIN DARA : Towering over the town of Kalimpong is the Durpin Hill, the top of which offers breathtaking views of rolling plains of Siliguri and the Tista and Rangit valley.The panoramic Kanchendzonga range on which lies the Nathula pass.On the Durpin Dara Hill is nestled a beautiful golf course with gently rolling slopes.





SCIENCE CITY : A very new addition to the tourism of Kalimpong is the Science City.This is a place which is of tremendous joy specially to the children.Here,various examples of  ‘science- magic'and also has a garden with various outdoor activities,along with models of dinosaurs.It great joy to all visitors especially because of its location being on a hilltop.





RIVER  TEESTA :  Across the river, Teesta lies lush Kalimpong. The road weaves lazily up a steep incline to suddenly open up to an unexpected panorama. Its rolling meadows are as yet untouched by tourism.












                                      Travels Information :
                     
Bus & Jeep : There are frequent jeeps for the three hour trip to Darjeeling. The buses are so much less frequent, slower and more uncomfortable that it's hardly worth the small cost saving. All transport, other than taxis, leaves from the Bazaar bus stand.
Rail:The nearest railway stations are Siliguri Junction ( 68 km ), and New Jalpaiguri ( 77 km ). Railway tickets for trains ex-New Jalpaiguri/Siliguri can be purchased from the Railway Out Agency, Motor Stand, Kalimpong.
